Trend Alert: Muslim Products 🚨

New Opportunity for Retailers

Christmas is right around the corner and everyone is in the rush of buying gifts.

Seeing all the frantic gift shoppers inspired me to look at Google Trends to see if there were any interesting trends.

And sure enough I found something interesting - a rise in demand for “muslim gifts”. Essentially products tailored to the Islamic faith and those who practice it.

I found there to be an underlying opportunity here I would like to share with all of you - an opportunity I believe western retailers and companies are largely overlooking.

TL;DR:

  • Islamic countries are starting to becomes some of the largest economies in the world with Indonesia at $1.34 trillion, Saudi Arabia at $1.11 trillion, and Turkiye at $905 billion with a combined population of 392 million people with a majority under the age of 30 (source).

  • There is a rise in demand for products tailored to muslims, such as muslim gifts or muslim clothing.

  • The Opportunity: Find ways to tailor your products to the 1.8 billion muslims and 28 muslim countries in the world

    • Ideas: Halal cosmetics, Islamic clothing (modest in nature), Halal snacks, etc.

Muslim Gifts

Muslim countries are some of the fastest growing and hottest market right now - from Indonesia (273.8 million population) to Saudi Arabia (35.95 million population).

These are countries that are searching the most for the query “muslim gift”.

Two out of the top five countries in the list above are in the Next Eleven List released by Goldman Sachs Group (link).

The Next Eleven List was created by a Goldman Sachs in a report about emerging world powers. In the report, the researchers forecasted Indonesia and Pakistan would become some of the largest economies of the 21st Century.

Currently Indonesia sits at a GDP of 1.18 trillion while Pakistan is at 348.3 billion. The Indonesian economy has especially lived up to the forcasts by becoming the 16 largest economy in the world (source).

The rising interest in Islam globally is even more visible when we compare it to worldwide search queries for “Christianity” or “Judaism”, two of the other major religions in the world.

These are some examples of “muslim gifts” in the gift industry.

Wether you’re in the gifts industry or not, catering to muslims is an opportunity to expand market share. Creating “halal” products for everyday products for muslims can open retail & e-commerce businesses to brand new markets.

From halal cosmetics to halal snacks, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world and is a massive opportunity for global businesses.

(P.S “Halal” means “Permitted” in Arabic, implying something is permissible by Islamic rules. The term is used anywhere from food to products to behavior).

Another example of this is with Islamic clothing for women - modest dresses, hijabs, etc.
